On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the Indian exchange students arrived in Erfurt. The German students met at the train station at 2:45 PM. Everyone then received a rose for each Indian student. When the train finally arrived, we welcomed them with a poster and the roses. After all the suitcases and students were off the train, we all took the tram to the school. There, each Indian student was assigned a German mentor for the weekend. We gave them a tour of the gym and the grounds. After that, we played some initial getting-to-know-you games and were supposed to find in groups the differences between India and Germany regarding various topics. In the evening, there was a barbecue organized by the parents. After the meal, we played volleyball and soccer in groups. We spent the night together in the gym.

24. August 2025: Der erste Morgen am KLG

On Sunday, after our adventurous sleepover in the gymnasium, we started the day with a short yoga session. We relaxed with some meditation, followed by two yoga flows. The Indian students were used to it, but it was a nice new experience for the German students. The day continued with a German breakfast and team-building activities, such as building spaghetti towers. This was a great way to get to know each other better, because that afternoon we had to choose our exchange partner.

But before that, we had an Indian lunch (with a German twist), where the German students learned how to eat with their hands. Before the final decision, there was one more item on the daily schedule: the school rally.
The Indian students got to know the KLG, and the German students learned some interesting facts about the school.
Then came the big reveal: which host family would each student be staying with? Most of the partners had already been decided, though, so everyone was happy with their choice. And so the first exciting afternoon and evening with the host families began ...

25. August 2025: Großer Auftakt in der Aula mit Orchester und Fernsehen

Da es an diesem Tag unterschiedliche Aktivitäten am Nachmittag gab, geben wir hier zu diesem Tag zwei Blogbeiträge wieder

We all 20 indian members went to the confernce room on the 4. floor with our tradional dresses. We all took nice photos.
After this we went to the Auditorium attend the welcome adress for us. Our principal Mr Walther gave a welcome speech and after their two teachers, Mr Adhi and Mrs Sangeetha had also spoken, we were called up with our exchange partners and given our ,exchange-jackets'. They're actually very nice: blue and with our two school logos. Our junior band also played for our indian guests and after this ceremony, we had a mediation, where we spoke about our wishes, expectations and fears.  And we were even on Television!
After lunch in the cafetaria and a fancy Zumba dance class, our afternoon began. My exchange partner and I went out for ice cream with a few others from the exchange as a group. We visited the famous ,,Krämerbrücke" and sat together on the water. After we got home quickly, we went back into town. There we had a tiny tour over the Domplatz and the Petersberg. On the Petersberg we had a great chat and we enjoyed swinging at the ,sky swing' as the sun went down. All in all it was a very nice first day after our crazy, huge sleep-over at the weekend and I enjoyed hanging out with my exchange partner :)

On Monday, the Indian guest students were welcomed in our assembly hall. The orchestra played and several people spoke. The television was also there. In the end, we all got jackets for the exchange. We really liked them. Afterwards there was a "round table discussion". We talked about our wishes, goals and any problems. For lunch, we all ate together in our cafeteria. The German students then had to go their normal class and the Indian students could choose an activity.

We then went pedal boating with 2 other host families in Hohenfelden. That was great fun. At the end of the day, we went to the restaurant and slept straight afterwards.

27. August 2025: Ausflug nach Jena

Today the plan was to visit the city Jena, but the train was cancelled so we took the second train. We reached the city, and then we visited the 'IMAGINATA MUSEUM". There we learned some science stuff. After a walk, next we went to the INDIAN RESTAURANT (TAJ) and ate a good Indian food. After that our plan was to visit the "ZEISS PLANETARIUM". We reached it using the tram. There we learned about our "Universe and how it was created". After the second science time of the day we visited the "GOETHE-GALLERIE" mall and shopped with our friends and host partners. Then we reached the rail station by a short walk and got the train and reached the "MAIN STATION ERFURT" and returned to our home.

28. August 2025: Schulleben und Empfang im Erfurter Rathaus

Today was a truly enriching and memorable day, packed with cultural learning, meaningful interactions, and unforgettable experiences. We began our morning with a lively music class, where we explored various rhythms using different instruments. It was not only a fun way to start the day but also a great opportunity to connect through the universal language of music. Following the music session, we had a German lesson that introduced us to new vocabulary and grammar structures. The teacher made the learning process engaging and interactive, which helped us gain more confidence in using the language. It was impressive to see how much we've progressed already! During the breaks, we had time to relax and mingle with each other, deepening the bonds we've been building throughout the program. One special moment was when we gathered in the auditorium for an official group photo — a nice keepsake to remember this unique experience by.

Lunch was another highlight of the day. The vegetarian selection was not only healthy but also incredibly tasty. We enjoyed a variety of dishes and shared conversations that ranged from cultural traditions to future aspirations, making it a truly heartwarming and enriching mealtime.

In the afternoon, we visited the Alte Synagoge (Old Synagogue), one of the oldest preserved synagogues in Europe and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The visit was both moving and educational. We learned about the building's long and complex history, and we were especially fascinated by the Erfurt Treasure, a stunning collection of medieval coins, jewelry, and artifacts that offered a tangible glimpse into the past. Later in the day, we were warmly welcomed at the town hall, where we were given an insightful introduction to Erfurt’s rich history and cultural heritage. The reception was gracious, and it felt inspiring to be acknowledged as young ambassadors of our respective cultures.

29. August 2025: In der Natur um Erfurt

As usual, the German host students were bringing their exchange partners to school in the morning. Then our guests had two German lessons with their teacher Miss Witzenhausen, where they wrote a test about their skills in our language. Afterwards the Indian students could choose between Astronomy, History, German, Biology lessons, regarding their own interests, which they had with one of the classes in our school. After finishing our studying, we made our way to go for a relaxing walk in the “Steiger”, a nearby forest, to which we only had to walk for about 15 minutes. There a ranger waited for us, she taught us much about the beauty of the nature and guided us to the “Apfelgut”, an Appel farm inside of the woods. On our way there, we had to face many challenges such as the steep way, which was hard to climb or the heavy rain, that made all of us wet. After an intensiv and exhausting but also really interesting hike in our city forest, we arrived at our destination and had a really nice Picknick there. We ended our first week together with Indian specialties, some snacks, German food, many laughs and a joyful time together. Going home, everybody is excited for the adventures week end in the host families and the following days to come.

1. September 2025: Klimawandel im Fokus

This morning, we had a so called climate breakfast, It was actually a climate-friendly breakfast, so we first met in the morning and talked about different criteria for food to be climate friendly. After this, we gathered together in groups and picked some topics (we had the vegetables). The challenge was to buy a few products being regional, seasonal and plant-based (which wasn’t hard because of the vegetables:). Moreover, we had to be aware of not buying too much in order to keep plastic and food waste at a minimum. After shopping all the groceries, we had a yummy and diverse breakfast:) Later, we had a joined music lesson with both indian and german students which was quite funny since we not only had to sing but playing shakers and the drums. Before we went to the cinema, we had a quick lunch and then went in to watch a movie called ‘Everything will change’. Its was about climate change, the diversity of nature and how we as mankind would live in the future. After we watched the movie, we went back to the school, to talk to mrs. Reim and also had the option to choose between two tasks. The first one was the talked about, what happened in the movie and to find options how to reducing waste and preventing extensions life/ species change from spreading further. The second option was to write about, what happened in the movie and all the things, that comes to our mind when we think about the movie. Afterwards we spent our time with the indian students together, to go shopping, to explore the city or to rest.

2. September 2025: Disco-Fox, X-Fab und Geschenkekauf

For the German students, the day was almost like a normal school day. The Indian students had a German lesson. At 9:35 a.m., we did a dance lesson together. This time, it was disco fox, not Zumba. It was really fun!
After it was over, the German side went back to their classes, and the Indian side went to X-Fab. The activities ended at 3 p.m., and almost everyone went to buy last-minute presents for their family and friends back in India.

3. September: Der letzte Tag in Erfurt

We started the morning with a short yoga session in the park. After this, the German students had their second and third lessons, while the Indian students attended a German lesson. At around 10:30, we had an evaluation and later our lunch break. Some of us met at a student’s place to celebrate a birthday, and then went home so the Indian students could pack their bags. At 5:30 pm, we had a farewell ceremony in a rather casual setting, which was nice. Overall, it was a very pleasant and relaxed last day together here in Erfurt.
